A megújuló és a fosszilis energiahordozók szerepe Magyarországon AgEcon
Magda, Robert.

Absolute Abundance and Relative Scarcity: Announced Policy, Resource Extraction, and Carbon Emissions AgEcon
Di Maria, Corrado; Smulders, Sjak; van der Werf, Edwin.
We study the effectiveness of climate change policy in a model with multiple non-renewable resources that differ in their carbon content. We find that, when allowing some time between announcement and implementation of a cap on carbon dioxide emissions, emissions from non-renewable energy sources increase at the time of announcement. There are two channels behind this effect. First, since a binding constraint on emissions restricts energy use during some period of time, more must be extracted during other periods. Second, since low carbon energy sources are relatively more valuable when the policy is implemented, it is optimal to conserve them ahead of enforcement. This might induce a switch to high-carbon resources before the policy is implemented.

Agriculture in a Water-Scarce World AgEcon
Gilmour, Brad; Jotanovic, Aleksandar; Gurung, Rajendra Kumar; Polcyn, Tania; Deng, Hugh.
With a relatively small population and 7% of the world's available freshwater resources, Canada is well placed for a world of water scarcity where the real value of water in its many uses becomes more and more apparent. However, action is necessary to ensure that Canada continues to benefit from the social, economic and environmental goods and services derived from water resources. Experience and analysis suggests that policy and incentives play critical roles in the sustainable exploitation of natural resources. In particular, properly valuing water in all its forms and uses appears to be critical. Analysis abroad has underlined the benefits of clearly delineating the roles of regulators, resource managers, infrastructure operators and service...

ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF LAND USE AgEcon
Bozsik, Norbert; Magda, Robert.
The aim of our paper is to show the economic importance of land usage. This topic is very important because land is the basis of industrial, agricultural production, energy and environmental security. The analysis focuses on the relationship between land use and scarcity, sustainability and competitiveness. ------------------------------------------- Cikkünk célja a földhasználat gazdasági jelentőségének bemutatása.

On the Theory and Practice of Water Regulation AgEcon
Tsur, Yacov.
We study water regulation for a schematic water economy representing a wide range of real world situations. A water policy has inter- and intra-temporal components. The first determines the limits on extractions from the naturally replenished sources, given the stochastic nature of recharge processes associated with uncertain precipitation. The intra-temporal regulation is concerned mainly with the allocating of the extracted and produced water among the end-users. The prices that implement the optimal intra-temporal allocation are derived. Regulation issues associated with cost recovery and asymmetric information are discussed.
